About “Getting Used to the Feel”

Stream & Track Info

“Getting Used to the Feel” was originally inspired by that weird post-COVID time where everything was slowly going back to normal, when you were doing all the things you used to do but it all felt off for a while.

Now that it’s 2024, the meaning of the hook has changed and it really eludes to that sense of never truly being comfortable in your own skin, or your own situation.

“Getting Used to the Feel” Lyrics

Can’t shake the silence
Your heart reminds me of a disease
My head don't feel right
I need to breathe
Not here to mess around
(Can’t shake the silence)
Just trying to keep my heart in tact
(Can’t shake the silence)
Not here to mess around

Still getting used to the feel
Still getting used to the feel
A whole new world surrounds

The knot is tightening
I can’t keep fighting, just pull the string
(Not here to mess around)
Don’t wanna feel like I’m dying, lying here
(Just trying to keep my heart in tact)
Counting it down
Not here to mess around

Still getting used to the feel
Still getting used to the feel
A whole new world surrounds

I tried my best to keep the heart in tact
You walked away while I was looking back
I always meant to give you all I had

Still getting used to the feel
Still getting used to the feel
A whole new world surrounds
Still getting used to it

Getting Used to the Feel” maintains that Tame Impala quality we gushed about last June, but slows its roll and finds Galis’ vocals in a more spacious arrangement, which totally makes sense in the context of its immediate post-COVID ‘return to normalcy’ penning.”  – KUTX Song of the Day

“a Tame-Impala-meets-Toro-Y-Moi wrecking ball of psych-pop… bookended by long-swelling, heavily-modulated synth chords, “Tear It Down” creates a must-hear atmospheric foundation before pulling the rug out and letting loose with some of the slickest pop-rock we’ve heard come out of Austin in a minute.”KUTX

“As the third single from their upcoming EP, ‘“’Tear It Down’ delivers a powerful teaser for what’s to come from Genuine Leather. ” – Plastic Mag

“Promises” is an exciting and infectious single that showcases Genuine Leather’s versatility and willingness to experiment with various sounds.Sistra

“With “Promises”, Chris Galis has crafted a 3-minute dance-pop gem that is guaranteed to get bodies moving. The song highlights Galis’ ability to write captivating and catchy hooks. “Promises” draws inspiration from a range of musical styles, including the classic sounds of Wilco and Tears for Fears, as well as the modern, synth-driven soundscapes of Tame Impala.”Each Measure

“Genuine Leather have definitely made a banger with ‘Even If I Could.'”UptoHear Music

“An 80s pop vibe similar to Thompson Twins is threaded into the chorus, but the stadium friendly alternative tones of the song sit well next to the likes of White Lies, Editors, and CHVRCHES.”Analogue Trash

Why you might be interested in this project

This is Genuine Leather’s first release after their label-supported debut, Genuine Pleasure, was released in November 2023. A big step up in production and exposure, Genuine Pleasure introduced Galis’ synth pop stylings to a broader audience. Eager to continue the momentum from Genuine Pleasure, “Getting Used to the Feel” takes GL’s punchy synth pop and places it in a more expansive world. With a rich aural landscape and driving, Pure Moods-esque drum beat, the music makes the perfect sonic foundation for Galis’ vocals.

Galis has been writing and recording music under the Genuine Leather name for 10 years, mostly using it as a DIY/lo-fi outlet for my songwriting. Over the last two years, I’ve decided to take a step up in songwriting, production, and approach because I want to reach a wider audience, get my music heard by more people.

Since the release of Genuine Pleasure, Genuine Leather started gaining some decent traction. In the last month, we’ve gained thousands of monthly listeners on Spotify, received positive press for the three previous singles, and have had some decent organic playlist placements.
