About “Getting Used to the Feel”
Stream & Track Info
“Getting Ready to Go Out” is a song about those moments leading up to a night out when possibilities are endless, futures are undetermined, and what is “new” is the altruistic good. Girls and guys looking into mirrors in darkened rooms, moonlight beaming in through slits in blinds. Ubers on the way. Friends pregaming in the kitchen.
For Genuine Leather, this tune isn’t a departure, its really more of a statement of decluttering and simplicity: 3 minutes verse/chorus/verse/chorus structure. A tidy arrangement, instrumentation, and production – all designed to get out of the way of the core idea of the song – the “oh yeah”‘s that lift off each time verse gives way to the hook (“old enough to know we’re not in love/dumb enough to want it that much more”).

“Getting Used to the Feel” Lyrics
Baby calls me up
Says its been a week
Says she got a few thing on her mind
God I need some rest, but honestly
I'll take that morning every time
Oh yeah
Gonna meet my baby girl
Oh yeah
Old enough to know we're not in love
Oh yeah
Getting dressed up head to toe
Oh yeah
Dumb enough to want it that much more
Gonna spend my money on some fancy drinks
Gonna wait an hour in the line
I always feel like
Every night's a rewind
I hate your new place
Everyone's a free ride
All this talking
Right when you want it
Oh yeah
Gonna meet my baby girl
Oh yeah
Old enough to know we're not in love
Oh yeah
Getting dressed up head to toe
Oh yeah
Dumb enough to want it that much more
When I'm at the bar its iike
I'm never gone
When I'm back at home its like
I'm always there
I hope I'm dressed right
Tonight's a theme night
I never wanted to be
On your B-sides
Oh yeah
Gonna meet my baby girl
Oh yeah
Old enough to know we're not in love
Oh yeah
Getting dressed up head to toe
Oh yeah
Dumb enough to want it that much more

“Getting Used to the Feel” maintains that Tame Impala quality we gushed about last June, but slows its roll and finds Galis’ vocals in a more spacious arrangement, which totally makes sense in the context of its immediate post-COVID ‘return to normalcy’ penning.” – KUTX Song of the Day
“a Tame-Impala-meets-Toro-Y-Moi wrecking ball of psych-pop… bookended by long-swelling, heavily-modulated synth chords, “Tear It Down” creates a must-hear atmospheric foundation before pulling the rug out and letting loose with some of the slickest pop-rock we’ve heard come out of Austin in a minute.” – KUTX
“As the third single from their upcoming EP, ‘“’Tear It Down’ delivers a powerful teaser for what’s to come from Genuine Leather. ” – Plastic Mag
“Promises” is an exciting and infectious single that showcases Genuine Leather’s versatility and willingness to experiment with various sounds. – Sistra
“With “Promises”, Chris Galis has crafted a 3-minute dance-pop gem that is guaranteed to get bodies moving. The song highlights Galis’ ability to write captivating and catchy hooks. “Promises” draws inspiration from a range of musical styles, including the classic sounds of Wilco and Tears for Fears, as well as the modern, synth-driven soundscapes of Tame Impala.” – Each Measure
“Genuine Leather have definitely made a banger with ‘Even If I Could.'” – UptoHear Music
“An 80s pop vibe similar to Thompson Twins is threaded into the chorus, but the stadium friendly alternative tones of the song sit well next to the likes of White Lies, Editors, and CHVRCHES.” – Analogue Trash
Why you might be interested in this project
Chris Galis has been writing and recording music under the Genuine Leather name for 10 years, mostly using it as a DIY/lo-fi outlet for my songwriting. Over the last two years, he’s decided to take a step up in songwriting, production, and approach because I want to reach a wider audience, get my music heard by more people.
Since the release of Genuine Pleasure, Genuine Leather started gaining some decent traction. In the last month, we’ve gained thousands of monthly listeners on Spotify, received positive press for the three previous singles, and have had some decent organic playlist placements.
